The Health Visitor, Carla Garsed, is normally available on Tuesday mornings at the Jockey Lane Clinic for weighing, developmental checks, discussion and advice. She is happy to see parents and babies without appointment. Our nurse Julia Haynes, who specialises in Child Health (and works elsewhere as a Health Visitor at other times of the week) is at the Crane Surgery on Tuesday and gives immunisations in Baby Clinic on Tuesday afternoons 2-3 p.m. She can be seen by appointment. If appointments on Tuesdays are difficult, we now have another Nurse, Debbie Humphries, who can give child immunisations on Mondays and Fridays.
Child Immunisation Policy: The child immunisation programme is Department of health policy, and it is also supported by the World Health Organisation. We would urge all patients to comply with this programme for the good of their children's health. We send out appointments for immunisations and developmental checks: please contact us if these appointments are inconvenient for any reason, and we will arrange alternatives. If you are concerned about immunisations for your children please come and discuss the matter with one of the Doctors in a normal surgery. If you would like to see more up-to-date information on the subject, there is an NHS-run website all about immunisations on our links page: click here.
Now held at Jockey Lane Clinic. Run by the Midwife.
Our Midwives are based at Hawkhurst Cottage Hospital. If you discover that you are pregnant, you should come and see the Doctor in the first instance. You will then be referred to the Midwives, and the referral will be passed on by them to the Antenatal Clinic at whichever hospital you choose (usually Pembury or Maidstone). The Hospital will automatically contact you about scans etc., and the Midwife will also contact you automatically to arrange a meeting at the Antenatal Clinic. You will be invited to attend antenatal classes at Hawkhurst Cottage Hospital. If you have any concerns or questions about your pregnancy, or wish to make an appointment, you can contact the Midwives by telephone on 01580 755559.
